The Melbourne home of former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has sold for more than $300,000 over the asking price. Several hundred people attended the auction of the house at 9 Medford Street in Altona, in Melbourne’s west.
Bidding began at $500,000 and reached $921,000 after half an hour of spirited bidding. Ms Gillard owned the house for 15 years. She and her partner Tim Mathieson moved to Adelaide after vacating The Lodge earlier this year. The median house price for the area is $535,000.

One of the most significant social changes in the past 30 years has been our aging population, over the coming decades this aging will polarize, affecting not only the lifestyle choices of the greying population, but the economy of successive generations as well. As Baby Boomers seek to downsize responsibility, are they biting at chunks of the property market also sought-out by Gen Y?
A decade ago a house on a quarter acre block might have been the dream lived out by the average Aussie Baby Boomer, but new research suggests they are increasingly looking at apartment living, the same corner of the market chased by their grandchildren.
Policy-makers, planners and developers need to get creative as two generations converge on the same portion of an already under-stress property market.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics – ABS – projects that population growth will see an even higher demand on housing, the converging generations – Baby Boomer vs Gen Y – has the potential to kick-start a steep rise in apartment prices unless developers start planning for seriously increased demand :: Read the full article »»»»

Which room is the most important in your home? For me it’s the kitchen, I love to cook, love to have everything, including friends and family, close at hand. Clearly I enjoy a sociable lifestyle, for this reason, my kitchen is not only large and open, it’s also the center – literally – of my home.
The most important step in any project is turning your needs into a great design, we’re not just talking requirements and good looks. What makes you happy, how can a design fulfill your contentment?
Almost more than any other room, a kitchen needs to be well thought out, it requires practicality, must be aesthetically pleasing and should add real value to not only your life, but the value of your home :: Read the full article »»»»

Waking each day is like starting anew, bouncing out of bed to the wondrous thoughts of what the world might bring. Or perhaps a push is required? alarmclock might jus be what you need to put the bounce back in your daily waking routine.
Imagine waking to the news of how much you’d spent the previous day – shoes cost right – or how far the financial markets had slipped the previous session. All streamed securely straight from your bank or broker, clever boffins huh?

DISCLOSURE! I Like this car a bit more than I should, this review might have a bias toward the plus end…
Fiat 500 ticks all my boxes for style, function and price, and NO this isn’t a paid advertisement, the 500 truly left an impression. At $AU14,ooo you get a lot of little car. The closest European is the Soviet styled VW UP, and I dare you to find a Japanese or Korean model with this much pizaz.
This slick little city-car has been around since 2007 – and I’ve loved it that long – the latest upgrades, updates and slight remodelling go well beyond it’s emotional curves, 500 has kept pace with ‘what we expect’ from a new car, the smile you get driving this car still astounds me.
While I’m on the disclosure thingy, I must admit to convincing a girlfriend she needed a 500 Rockstar – sorry, think you’ve missed that gem – but keep your eye on the Fiat site for great limited edition models fiat.com.au :: Read the rest of this post »»»
